About Union Oil & Gas
Union Oil & Gas, Inc. has proudly served communities in West Virginia for over 80 years, with a legacy deeply rooted in innovation and community service. Established in January 1940, Union Oil & Gas began its journey as part of the rural resettlement initiative known as the “Red House Project.” In 1947, the company expanded by merging with the Pine Utility Company, extending its reach to serve Winfield and rural areas across Putnam and Cabell Counties, including Red House, Hurricane, Scary Creek, Mt. Vernon, Teays, and Culloden.
At its inception, Union operated in predominantly rural communities, where homes were scattered in small clusters. These areas were supplied with gas sourced from taps on local gathering and transmission lines. Though the region has evolved over the decades, these foundational service areas continue to form the backbone of Union Oil & Gas's operations.
From the very beginning, Union Oil & Gas has embraced technology to better serve its customers. It was among the first utilities to adopt computers and SCADA systems, paving the way for efficient utility management. Union also led the way as the first utility in the area to accept credit card payments, offering convenience to its customers.
Today, Union continues to set industry benchmarks as a pioneer in advanced technologies, such as remote meter reading. This innovation ensures greater accuracy in gas measurement while minimizing disruptions for customers, reflecting the company’s commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.
Union Oil & Gas remains dedicated to delivering reliable energy while prioritizing innovative solutions for the communities it serves.
